Download the typeface here: Slimy

Slime Rancher is a single-player game where the player gets to discover an open world and collect various slimes. I decided to develop a full set of alphabets from the game title and use it in promotional posters and merchandise.

REFLECTIONS

Experience

For advanced typography, I found that things were easier when it comes to creating sketches and ideas. I felt that this module was less strict, thus letting me have more creative liberty. However, I find that I tend to go a little crazy with the ideas, which might deviate from the original intention. There are ups and downs, but I think I prefer Advanced Typography as I get to express my ideas a little more.

Despite the hard labour that I have to go through, many times I found the result to be rewarding. Sometimes I feel that the assignments can ask for a lot, but I think it's good that it pushes us to learn more and improve on our current skills.

Observations

While I'm given more creative liberty, it comes with its own set of challenges. The tasks given were harder than before, and with higher standards. I strive for the best I can do, but I realise there's more that I can learn from this module, For example, I found that there is more to designing typefaces, rather than just for interest or commissions' sake.

Findings

Advanced typography has really expanded my knowledge and made me appreciate it more than I did before. Learning about what makes the letterforms work to creating one yourself, I think this has made me understand the uniqueness each type carries and what makes it click. It has been an enlightening journey and I hope that I can utilise this knowledge in the future.
