INSTRUCTIONS

RESEARCH

To truly understand what our client and target audience needs, we did some research into packaging design for healthy food and roti canai. We also researched into eco-friendly packaging to promote a more sustainable production that will be better for the environment.

PROCESS

Week 1

We gathered to create a Miro board for the compilation of our research, references and ideas. We started off with researching about sustainable and eco-friendly packaging. We compiled our information in both the Miro board and a Google doc to make it easier to track the information. At the same time, we tried to work on our Project Document so we can tick off the boxes for Task 1.

While everyone is compiling information, I helped out in creating the empathy map format since I had experience in using them for previous assignments.

After gathering some more information, we decided to start working on our personas. We made three of them according to the target audience The Business School (TBS) students had provided in their project brief. However, we did face some problems when we had to fill up the empathy map. Most of us didn't have experience in creating one, hence I made a few sticky notes with examples in them to better clarify each category.

At the same time, we started forming our questionnaire so we can have an idea of the people's perception on healthy food and roti canai packaging. We made a list of questions, but we hesitated in creating the questionnaire itself since we weren't sure if it was possible to gather enough responses and to analyse it in a short amount of time.

Week 2

After consultation with Ms Lilian, we geared our direction towards narrowing down our target audience. We further specify our target audience while creating our personas, by assigning certain traits for each of them. In the end, we managed to get a clearer picture of our personas. We then moved on to creating the empathy map.

Meanwhile, we decided to go through with the plan of creating the questionnaire. We created a Google form and had it distributed to our friends, and managed to gather 59 responses in two days. We had to close the form since we didn't have much time to wait for more responses. Azka and Brigita compiled the data into an Excel sheet and tagged similar responses with certain colours. I was responsible for analysing the compiled data.

As the week approached its end, we had to compile all our research into our presentation and project document slides. It was a lot of work, due to a few members being unavailable at certain times which made the working process slow. Somehow, we managed to make it work.

Week 3

The day of presentation came and we presented our findings from our research. It was nerve-wrecking but we made it and Ms Lilian seemed satisfied with our work. The TBS students were also in agreement with our research and approved that we were on the right track. The only mistake we made was accidentally adding contents of our project document into our presentation slides. Overall, a satisfactory ending.

FEEDBACK

Week 2

Instead of being dependent on your client, you should do more research independently and form suggestions for them instead. Sometimes you may have better ideas to provide to your clients to further improve the product or experience. For now, do not work on the Project Document just yet and focus more on specifying your target audience/persona and create your empathy map. You may change up the target audience just a little so you can have a more specific problem statement. Do further research upon the product you're marketing.

Week 3

Good presentation, can see that you have specified our target audience and personas clear and concise. Good compilation of survey data and proper analysis of responses. Nice set up of questions, since it allows you to understand people's preferences for certain packaging when it comes to healthy food and roti canai. The content in the end of the presentation is not needed, and it's meant to be in the project document slides instead.

NEXT COURSE OF ACTION

Week 1

  1. Start on researching for materials and content
  2. Create a place for documentation
  3. Meet up with TBS students to clarify requirements
  4. Suggest questions for questionnaire

Week 2

  1. Put in further research and better understand the product you are trying to market
  2. Specify your target audience
  3. Work on empathy map
  4. Create questionnaire design and distribute
  5. Analyse questionnaire data
  6. Create presentation slides
  7. Create project document slides

Week 3

  1. Start on Task 2
  2. Specify art direction
  3. Meet up with TBS students for further information and confirmation

REFLECTIONS

Experience

It was a little hard working on this task, since there is a lot that was required of us to do. I took Minor Project last semester, so I still had some experience to use for this task. Unfortunately I fell sick and that slowed down my productivity. At least some of my group members did the best they could to finish the rest of the task, though I do feel a little bad for it.

Observation

The trending packaging design for healthy food these days are usually minimalistic and bright in design. Meanwhile, the packaging for roti canai tend to look similar to one another and typically used plastic material. Considering our task is to create an eco-friendly packaging, this would be one of the challenges to come.

Findings

It was interesting to learn more about keto diet since I've never heard about it until now. But that aside, I learned way more about eco-friendly packaging and various types of it, which would be useful in deciding the material we would potentially use for packing the roti canai.
